Pharmacy Services

The Jamestown Regional Medical Center Pharmacy Department provides the medications used in the hospital. We work with the physicians and nurses to assure that the medications used at JRMC are safe and effective. We provide information on the best ways to give medications to minimize the possibility of drug/drug or food/drug interactions, and avoid medication errors. Our pharmacists are available to inpatient caregivers and participate in interdisciplinary conferences where we consult on current and alternate drug therapies. We also provide computerized drug information to aid nursing in educating our patients about safe and effective use of medications.

Medication Formulary

The medications your doctor orders for you while you are in the hospital will be provided by the hospital pharmacy. Like most hospitals and health plans, Jamestown Regional has a Formulary, or list of drugs we routinely stock and dispense to patients. Most of the medications your doctor orders for you will be on our Formulary. Occasionally you may be on a medication at home that is not on our Formulary and we will ask you to bring it with you so that the nurses may administer it while you are here so that your therapy will not be interrupted.

Below are some things you can do, as a patient, to help you caregivers provide you with the best treatment regarding you medications:

1. Bring a list of the current medications and dosages you are using at home. These should include medications prescribed by your physician and those purchased over the counter as well as herbal medications and nutraceuticals.
2. Inform you caregivers of any medications you cannot take.
3. Bring the name and telephone number of the pharmacy you use in case there are any questions about your prescriptions.
4. Ask questions about any new medications you may receive if you don’t understand what they are for or why they are being given to you.
